Hey there!

Long time no see! Unfortunately, I don’t start off here with good news. I’m sick again. Or maybe I just never fully got over the other illness, regardless I’m a bit of a miserable mess. It’s terrible because it’s also spring break. I’m pretty sure I’ll be spending mine in bed. One good thing is it […]

One good thing is it gives me time to work on/finish the project I started in class last week. (Or was it the week before? Sick haze. Forgive me) It’s an e-textile piece. A brooch based on Sailor Chibi Moon’s Crisis Compact as seen here:

Super cool, right?

Currently my piece looks like this:

Nothing to write home about.

I Can See!!

We started our cardboard projects and I thought I knew exactly what I was going to do, a jewelry tree! Since I couldn’t print a tree when we did 3D printing I mentioned that in my post and Rosemary had the great idea to just make one myself! I think it will turn into just … Continue reading I Can See!!

Cookies and Pancakes and Eggs, Oh My!

I have recently discovered that you can use cookie cutters for more than cookies! I have a 2-year-old nephew, so the ability to make anything vehicle shaped is great – car shaped cookies, dump truck shaped sandwiches, airplane pancakes. Now, those cookie cutter shapes are plentiful, my mom has a large collection of different shapes … Continue reading Cookies and Pancakes and Eggs, Oh My!

Maker Challenge Idea: DIY Gamebuino

Because I have a largely programming-based background, one of the subjects that most interested me with regards to DGST was the Arduino micro-controller. I had dabbled a bit with the Raspberry Pi prior to this class, but I don’t think I had truly experimented with a microcontroller in a meaningful way yet. Because I have a largely programming-based background, one of the subjects that most interested me with regards to DGST was the Arduino micro-controller. I had dabbled a bit with the Raspberry Pi prior to this class, but I don’t think I had truly experimented with a microcontroller in a meaningful way yet. Upon researching the Arduino’s capabilities, I came across the Gamebuino project, an Arduino-powered portable gaming device that runs black-and-white games off of an SD card. This seemed like the perfect project for me, as designing games is a prominent hobby of mine and the primary reason why I decided to major in computer science. The Gamebuino website has a wiki listing all of the materials used and some schematics regarding the circuitry, so despite my relative inexperience with Arduino circuitry, it seems like a feasible project for me. However, to keep things simple, I will not be following the design exactly. The official Gamebuino uses a smaller, but more advanced Arduino board, while I will be basing my design off of the bulkier, but easier to use Arduino Uno. I also will not be incorporating the speaker unless time permits, as it is not an essential part of the device. If I can get the buttons and main screen to work, then I would consider the project to be a success.
