About DGST 201
DGST 201 is part of UMW’s Digital Studies program. Students from any major can enroll in the class, but enrollment is capped at 15 students.
DGST 201 meets in the ThinkLab, Simpson Library’s makerspace, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:45 for the Spring 2017 semester.
This is a seminar course and as such does not follow the more traditional approach of lecture, note-taking, readings, and examinations. The focus is on innovative design and building of objects. The objects may take many forms: artworks, mechanical components, utilitarian objects, or combinations of all these.
Students enrolled in the class work in groups and independently. Each student keeps a Maker’s Notebook to document the work on their projects. The Notebook will also be used to capture design ideas, reflect on readings, record sources of inspiration. More information about the course can be found on the syllabus.
